Called "the big island" by the locals, it has the most densely populated sectors, has better infrastructure and established commerce and industries. Although there are still many places far from the bustle of modern life that are able to hang on to the essence of that Chiloé which survives in its magical surroundings, in spite of the adversity of the weather. The Tepuales can still be seen, the evergreen forests and the softly rising hills that are characteristic of the Chilote landscape. We can also find protected wetlands where a diverse and ample collection of different species of birds can be observed, among them, beautiful flamingos who emigrate in the winter.
